How to Properly Set up a Facebook Pixel on Your Shopify Site

The Facebook Pixel is a key tool you should be utilizing right away - it will absolutely help you get the most out of your social ad budget and help to bring customers who already love your store back to your store to shop! This small tool can help improve your marketing efforts in major ways! Here’s everything you need to know about how it works.

The Facebook pixel is a small piece of code that you place on your website. It collects data that helps you track conversions from Facebook ads, optimize ads, build targeted audiences for future ads, and re-market to people who have already taken some kind of action on your website. It works by placing and triggering cookies to track users as they interact with your website and your Facebook ads - cool right?

Here a just a few reasons why you’ll fall in love with the Pixel:

  1. Facebook Conversion Tracking: The Facebook pixel allows you to see how people interact with your website after viewing your Facebook ad. You can even see if they're viewing it on mobile or on a desktop. This info can help you with future ad strategies!
  2. Facebook Retargeting: Facebook retargeting pixel data and dynamic ads allow you to show targeted ads to people who have already visited your site AND who have visited certain products, helping them take a second look and hopefully make that purchase!
  3. Create Lookalike Audiences: Facebook can use its targeting data to help you build a lookalike audience of people who have similar likes, interests, and demographics to people who are already interacting with your website, which helps you attract new customers and drive more traffic to your Shopify store.

You can integrate a Facebook pixel with your online Shopify store to immediately start understanding customer behavior and traffic. Once you have created your Facebook Pixel and start using it, your business will be able to more effectively plan your ad campaigns to find new customers. So, where to start? There’s multiple steps when creating and using your Facebook Pixel, but we’ll take you step-by-step and guide you in the right direction along the way!

  • Even if you’re not using Facebook ads yet, you should still install the Facebook pixel as soon as possible! It will start collecting data right away so that you don’t have to start from scratch when you’re ready to create your first Facebook ad - we’re all about saving you some time!
  • Interested in using tools like web conversion campaigns, custom audiences from your website, or dynamic ads? You can only do so if you’ve installed the Facebook Pixel. You also need the Pixel to track metrics like cost per lead or cost per conversion - so getting started now is your best bet!

Before You Begin

Before you get started creating your Facebook Pixel, your very first step is to set up a Facebook ads account or Facebook business manager. From there, you’ll need to set up the Pixel in Facebook. To create an account, go to Facebook Ads Manager.

Step 1: Create Your Facebook Pixel

Step 1 - In your Facebook Business Manager, Go to your Pixels tab in Events Manager.

Step 2 - Click Create a Pixel.

Step 3 - Click Create in the box that appears to finish creating your pixel.

Step 2: Set Up Facebook Pixel

Step 1 - In Facebook, copy your Pixel code.

Step 2 - In Shopify, go to Online Store.

Step 3 - Select Preferences.

Step 4 - Paste your Pixel ID.

Step 5 - Click Save.

Once you have completed Step 2 and your Facebook Pixel is integrated into your Shopify store, the pixel tracks certain events automatically. You can also use event data to learn more about how customers interact with your store. Learn more about using Facebook pixel standard events to create campaigns and track conversions at the Facebook Help Center.
