4 Post-Coronavirus Silver Linings for Boutiques & Store Owners

Despite all that's going on, it's always important to look at the bright side of things. While a lot of negatives have come from this pandemic - especially for small business owners, there are some silver linings amongst the clouds when it comes to the future of e-commerce.

Online Shopping Surge

Customers are more accustomed now to shopping online than they've ever been - many because there was no other choice. This can mean reaching a whole new audience of people who otherwise wouldn't have shopped online, but, now that they've done it, will continue to do it even after this pandemic ends.

If you haven't yet, be sure to get your Facebook pixel installed on your site now so that when things become more normalized, you can re-target those users and remind them to come back. Things may get hectic as things start opening up again, so be sure you don't lose out on the effort you're putting in now - get that pixel installed! Opportunities for Improvement

What worked before may not work now. This pandemic may have exposed issues in your business that you didn't even realize were there - issues with fulfillment, shipping, supply chain, user experience, digital marketing... the list goes on. If you've seen areas where things could be improved, use this time while things are slow and customers are having to be understanding about slow processes, to get your systems under control. That way, when things go back to normal, you're ready to roll with no issues.

The time you'd normally spend having dinner with friends or grabbing coffee with a coworker can also be used to your advantage right now. Take that little extra free time to improve your mind so you can continuously improve your business in the coming months. Google shopping is currently allowing all stores to have free listings on their shop tab - something that used to only be available to paid listings only. This is Google's way of giving retailers free exposure to millions of people on their search engine.

Customers are realizing that it's more important than ever to shop small. The hope is that they take this into consideration as things begin to normalize and that they continue to shop small or shop locally. Be sure to use this time to really connect with your audience, ensure your story and your brand's story gets out there, and that you get to know what your customer really wants - so that when things start to shift back to "normal," you're still able to filter through the noise and connect with your audience.
